Savannah Cement is a growing private Company in the business of manufacturing their popular brand “Savannah Cement”. The Company has been in the market for five years and has over the years been increasing its market share. Mr. Ronald Ndegwa attributed the success of the company to the innovative technology used in both the production, marketing and distribution processes coupled with relatively young and vibrant staff that were daring to explore new ideas. The signing came on the eve of the 5th year anniversary of the Company. It is no wonder that the Company was attracted to working with a University that is of comparable age. Karatina University is four years old since it was established as a fully-fledged university, and similarly with a high compliment of young staff.
The linkage to the industry is instrumental in enhancing quality training for our Students, who will be afforded an opportunity to participate in work induction, attachment and experiential training. Mr. Ronald Ndegwa who is a trained Civil Engineer in the business field expressed great interest in participating as a mentor when called upon. Other areas to be explored through the collaboration are: joint research in areas such as market surveys, construction and business informatics. The two institutions will also engage in community development and outreach activities.
The Vice Chancellor noted that as much as the collaboration was championed by the School of Business, it was going to be beneficial and relevant to other Schools in the University. He noted that areas of training afforded through the Company are in the production process where analytical and bio-chemistry knowledge was in application. Others are ICT, value addition, procurement, marketing and distribution. He noted undergraduate studies is a foundation training and any graduate can take on any career path of interest and just about any student could learn from the entrepreneurial skills applied by the Company. He appreciated the fact that Savannah Cement had already taken students for attachment even before signing the memorandum and that the Company was already a partner in hosting the International Conference on National Cohesion and Integration hosted by the University in March 2017. He encouraged that the collaboration implementers ensure that the partnership is a success story by initiating many other exciting activities.
